J. Thomas Payte, M.D. - Opioid Agonist Treatment Of Addiction
Dr. Payte is the founder and Medical Director of Drug Dependence Associates, a MMT clinic in San Antonio, Texas, and Editor of the Journal of Maintenance in the Addictions, but he is perhaps best known to MIE users as the author of the "Dear Doctor" letter. In addition to Dear Doctor, the site includes two other letters MMT patients can use. Forced Withdrawal is intended for probation/parole officers. To Whom It May Concern can be given to family, friends, or employers to help them understand methadone maintenance treatment.
Addiction Recovery Institute (ARI)
A private methadone clinic in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Their purpose in Cyberspace is to provide a "virtual clinic," a resource where people can get and share information about heroin and other addictions. One of the few treatment providers on-line.
Chicago Recovery Alliance
A harm reduction outreach and syringe exchange organization. The site provides a detailed look at their services, their efforts and the results of their work. Very, very impressive.
Clinical Pharmacology Online
"This online service utilizes information from our Clinical Pharmacology CD-ROM, a well-reviewed resource in use by thousands of clinicians worldwide."
INDRO - Institute for the Furtherance of Qualitative Drug Research, Acceptance-Oriented Drug Work, and Rational Drug Policy
INDRO operates a low-threshold drop-in center for drug users and methadone patients, conducts research projects, produces a book series and publicizes booklets and other material on drug-related issues. Their Worldwide Travel Guide for Methadone Patients is now online. In German and English.
UCLA Drug Abuse Research Center (DARC)
"The Drug Abuse Research Center (DARC) is a diverse research organization that investigates psychosocial and epidemiological issues pertaining to drug use and conducts evaluations of interventions for drug dependence."
American Society of Addiction Medicine
"The nation's medical specialty society dedicated to educating physicians and improving the treatment of individuals suffering from alcoholism or other addictions."
National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI)
Info info info! A gold mine of information, and if they don't have it online it can be ordered from them for free! Get their catalog.
National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)
For the past two decades, NIDA has been exploring the biomedical and behavioral foundations of drug abuse. Online publications, monographs, research reports, and more. See the report, Heroin: Abuse and Addiction.
Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT)
"CSAT works cooperatively across the private and public treatment spectrum to identify, develop, and support policies, approaches, and programs that enhance and expand treatment services for individuals who abuse alcohol and other drugs and that address individuals' addiction-related problems."
CSAT Treatment Improvement Exchange

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
SAMHSA's mission is to assure that quality substance abuse and mental health services are available to the people who need them and to ensure that prevention and treatment knowledge is used more effectively in the general health care system.
Substance Abuse Network of Ontario (SANO)
In English or French, SANO is an interactive computer network that makes addiction-related information available to people across Ontario. SANO helps professionals and members of the public communicate with each other and gain better access to addictions resources. SANO is a project of the Addiction Research Foundation (ARF).
